First Pow Weekend at the Ghee

It wouldn’t be December in the Tetons without a few key Targhee sessions to celebrate the true start of the shred season. For the last few winters, it seems that the sky has unloaded in earnest for the first time on or around this past weekend. Knowing the fun in store for us at the ghee on Sunday, we gathered in Driggs on Saturday night for annual first-storm festivities consisting of a brisket feast, a bevy of fine holiday ales and cage fighting on pay per view. After all, what better way to get amped for early season 25 degree shrub turns than a hearty dose of cage fighting?
High avy danger and variable coverage caused only a portion of Dreamcatcher terrain to open, but we had a blast and worked it for all we could – covering our first 7 laps in about 75 minutes. It was just too fun to let up for a second as tracks filled in and the snow kept hammering all day. At one point, we noticed ski cut triggered pockets that had just popped since our last lap in a closed area directly under DC just above the gully. Another reminder to take it way easy in the backcountry until the snowpack stabilizes. No better time to hit Targhee with your friends and enjoy a bounty of safe face shots thanks to the kind efforts of Targhee patrol.
Stay tuned at Grand Targhee’s site for the latest deals, snow report beta and breaking news on additional lift/terrain openings.
