North American Freeskiing Championships at Kirkwood
Words and Photos: Julie Weinberger
After a little hiatus, the Freeskiing World Tour is back in Kirkwood for the the North American Freeskiing Championships. The day before qualifying, mother nature did her thing, dropping around two feet of fresh. Since the lookers right side of the Cirque had been closed off since the Northface Masters the week before and the left side is permanently closed, skiers were greeted with untouched pow. Day 1 of the FWT went off under soudy (sunny+cloudy) skies. Unfortunately, some aspects got a little baked. The funky snow caused lots to eat it. There were so many crashes that even a few competitors who didn’t stick clean runs made the finals the next day. Day 2 went off in spring break-like weather. Warm, bluebird skies and an epic venue lead to great skiing all around. So stoked for Janina Kuzma who not only won the event on the women’s side, but also took home the Sickbird buckle.
Huge props go out to Julie for all the amazing images she’s shared with us this winter. Check out more of her work at JulieWPhoto
