Let’s Climb Some Icicles!

[ 2 ] January 9, 2011 |

This weekend, some of us changed up our daily shred routine by doing some climbing at the Teton Ice Park at Grand Targhee Ski Resort. If you’ve got the ice bug or want to try it for the first time, TIP is the perfect call. They have information on their site about getting a lesson.

The Teton Ice Park is the creation of adventure outfitter Aerial Boundaries, owned by Exum Guide, Christian Santelices. TIP offers the very rare experience of ice climbing in the Tetons with no approach. All the routes are top-rope only and they average 30-40′. You can easily cover much of the Ice Park in a day and get pumped out of your skull. Now in its second year of operation, TIP created frozen waterfalls on the Parking Lot Rocks by using a water tanker truck, 600 feet of pipe, and some low-flow showers heads which was able to make 40 foot vertical cliffs covered with ice for climbing.

Access to the Teton Ice Park is available by purchasing a Membership or a Day Pass at Grand Targhee Ski Resort Activities Center. All users need to pass a skills assessment. It’s $100 for the season membership or $20 for the day.

Keep your climbing warm this winter with some gear from Millet. Millet is a European brand that is making their way into the states. They make tons of bomber outerwear and equipment. If you are in the Teton area and want to see their stuff for yourself, go check out their outerwear at Jackson Hole Sports in Teton Village.

If you can’t do that you can check out some of their gear right here from backcountry.com.
