On the mend with Profile Massage
Words By: Michelle Smith
Last summer I took a nasty fall on the Valhalla Traverse while attempting to ice climb the Enclosure Couloir in Grand Teton National Park. I shattered my tib-fib, broke my back in two places, and got more than a few punches from some angry rocks, (click here to watch a crazy video on what all went down that day). It’s been a little over 5 months since my fall, and my body still feels pretty mashed up. Like most mountain athletes, I want to get back to playing in the mountains as quickly as I can without doing my body any additional harm. During my recovery I have been going to physical therapy at Excel Physical Therapy, stretching daily, and doing low impact cardio activities like skate skiing and bootpacking/skinning up Snow King Mountain, (they let you download their lift if you pay a whopping $2.)
As an addition to my recovery program, I recently started getting a weekly massage from Profile Massage. The results have been awesome. My lower back pain has diminished quite a bit, the range of motion in my ankle has increased substantially, leg pain has decreased, (my massage therapist is working on separating my skin from my muscle from my bone….ouch), and I even got a lot of the knots worked out of my shoulders and neck….which I attribute to all the stress I feel from missing out on powder days.
If you are recovering from an injury, are having nagging pain/tightness/soreness in your body, or just want to relieve some stress Profile Massage is a good place to look for some serious relief. They are located at 220 East Broadway in Jackson. I’ve been working with profile massage director Landon Wiedenman. Be sure to also check out their massage memberships. If you are dealing with a lot of injuries/issues this option is pretty affordable.
There is also a very affordable community program called the Public Clinic. It is designed to provide an affordable option for the valued members of the Jackson Hole community as well as an introduction for those unfamiliar with the unique experience that Profile Massage offers. Sessions are targeted to address specific ailments, structural imbalances and pain. Community Massage sessions are limited to 30 minutes, every other week per customer and are available on Tuesdays from 1 to 3 p.m., free of charge.(donations are accepted, but not required)

If you mention this post on Ungrounded you can receive an additional 1/2 hour for free at the end of your massage appointment. If you have a lot of issues like myself, that extra half hour is a huge help.
